La
sobremesa (after-dinner/lunch) its a process of indefinite time that
occurs while having a meal surronded by other people. In its course we
generate many types of residue, some organic: stains, plates, glasses,
leftovers; some emotional: looks given, piercing words, traces inside
and out.
Intimacy, words that go from a mouth to another without shame,
fluidity, an almost ethereal state of happiness, accompanied by a
supernatural distortion of time. Until someone stops it: ask for the
bill, gets up, leaves the table. Until someone is brave enough to
realize the single gesture that closes it all forever.
La sobremesa as the stage which precedes the unstoppable breakage;
the act of staining each other while the dishes get dirty with time and
space. The moment that urges you to comeback even when there is nothing
there for you, the table has been cleaned up, and there are no
remainings of what used to be there.
